El Pinguino is hitting all the high notes. From the food, to the drinks, the atmosphere, the general coolness and kindness of the staff there, we are looking forwards to a great summer of happy hours and light delightful dinners at this relatively new spot by Transmitter park in Greenpoint.
The cute outdoor patio and welcoming cosy interior both feel laid back enough to sip a cocktail, enjoy daily half off oysters happy hours from 4 to 7pm, but more seriously speaking food wise, the must try black bass ceviche, agua chile negro mixto (a mix of scallops and shrimps) are both out of this world good.
The basque style chorizo roasted in red wine tapas as well as the steamed clams both come with a delicious chunk of hearty sourdough bread, that will bring your palate to a heavenly place. Now don’t be afraid to try the boquerones, what a treat even for those adverse to anchovies, they are different, just get a taste of it. Likewise for the oysters, everything tastes so fresh, we know it ain’t coming from the East River!
Specialities
The specialties at El Pinguino however are tinned seafood (Conservas), and range from Tuna Belly in Olive oil, to grilled Sardines Escabeche we are told to be delicious, grilled octopus mackerel and more seafood species.

So in a way we hope you won’t all rush there so we can still enjoy a nice seat there once in a while without having to make reservation months in advance… but at the same time, we wish the best outcome to the team behind this very special place, who is putting in the hard work to make this truly a great experience for the mere customer.
The bar is open seated first come first serve, so if you want to try your luck give it a chance! The cocktails are all amazing, wine is good, you can’t go wrong, whatever you order on this menu be it food or drinks, will hit the spot.
